meelkermedia uses Epoc devices for almost everything - web site maintainance, cgi programming, text editing, project planning etc. On this page we gathered links to some extremely useful PDF tools for Epoc. If you know of any tools that should be in this list but are not, then please send us an e-mail. | ||
'Pdf' is the name of the PDF reader for Epoc. It is not an Adobe development - it comes from mBrain Software. There are two versions: 'Pdf' that is free and 'Pdf+' that costs 25 Euro. The main advantage of Pdf+ is that hyperlinks within a PDF work (in the free version of Pdf they don't). The other advantage is that Pdf+ allows for printing of a PDF file. |

| hints | Pdf is a PDF reader and that's what it is: a reader. It has a limited set of functions and it demands a lot of the Epocs memory when running. But it is absolutely very useful. Lots of documentation, reports and other important stuff are available in PDF format - especially stuff concerning the graphic arts industry. It is great to be able to read all that conveniently on your PDA, without loosing your time for the endless startup procedures that are so characteristic for laptops. If it's necessairy, you can save Epoc memory and disk space by preparing big or heavy PDF's on your Windows or Mac computer before bringing it to your Epoc. Here are the steps:
Now your PDF will be considerably smaller and still perfect for your Epoc screen. You can use Pdf as a presentation tool. Make a greyscale (or color if you have a Series 7) document of the correct screen size on your Mac or PC. Open it in Pdf on your Epoc, hide the toolbars (Ctrl-Shift-W),and use hyperlinks or the N(ext) and P(revious) keys on your keyboard to navigate. The sample PDF file that we provide for download, a simple presentation, was made with a 225 x 84 mm Quark XPress file, and fits perfectly in the Epoc 5mx screen. If you have Quark XPress 4.0 or newer, you might have a look at the template document.

| Postscript Printer Driver | There is a free Postscript printer driver for EPOC devices available for download. It generates Level 1 Postscript. It was written by Andrew Johnson. |

| hints | Being a Level 1 driver,it is not quite state-of-the-art where graphics are concerned. Actually, graphics are converted in an un-efficient way. But for text this driver works perfect. You can use it to print to a Postscript printer, but you'd probably rather do that using one of the many printer specific drivers that are available for EPOC. The other use of this driver is to print to file, and then distill the file to PDF on your Mac or PC. Ideal for publishing your EPOC documents (Word, Sheet etc.) to other platforms. We made a sample PDF with an overview of EPOC Sheet Functions. This file was printed from EPOC Word to Postscript file on a Epoc, and then distilled with Acrobat Distiller on a Mac. It contains the Functions descriptions from EPOC Help, copied-and-pasted into EPOC Word for better formatting.
